Kacey Cole Photography Retouching Philosophy - How Much Do We Edit?

First and foremost, we want you to look at your images and be proud. If you get them back and don’t recognize the person in them, then we have not achieved our purpose. We accomplish this more through careful posing, use of light, and our photography skills than the magic of Photoshop and we are happy to see the general fashion and media industry moving in this direction as well.

We also recognize that many of our fitness clients have worked hard for their athleticism and out of respect for that, we want your photos to reflect that effort, not mask or reshape it. For our female clients, we specialize in photographing not only your muscularity, but capturing your femininity at the same time and we do not believe in editing out the definition or reshaping the body you have built.

So what do you do?

Our retouching philosophy is to honor your body. We will make your skin look its best, soften fine lines and undereye circles, remove blemishes, bruises, and the like, but we will not turn you into a mannequin or remove several dress sizes. Hard stop.

All bodies have stretch marks, cellulite, and scars, and all bodies fold and create rolls when they move (it’s called being human!). We’re good at directing you in how to minimize these during the session, but will discuss with you post-session as to whether you want them taken out, softened, or left exactly as photographed.

Overall, our editing process focuses more on small and stylistic changes that improve the overall image instead of morphing your body or the set into something unrecognizable and our clients appreciate this.
